Skaters Balance On One Foot At A Time

Pronation causes more difficulties and frustration for skaters than previously thought. Traditional methods for measuring pronation rely on measuring balance on two feet at the same time. Let's face it, skating is a one-footed sport. Very little time is spent rolling on two feet.

The SBS unique One-Footed Balance system is able to accurately measure pronation and give the skater a stable, laser-accurate base for balance.

The Shim Balance System custom measures each foot individually, determining precisely the degree of pronation as well as the degree of angle already existing within the skater's boot. When properly fitted with shims from the SBS, skaters can achieve cleaner edges, more control and easier edge changes on either foot. The shims will also reduce pain caused by improperly using other muscles to create controlled edging and balance.

The Shims Work With All Orthotics And Boots

The Shim Balance System is not used in place of regular orthotics, rather the Shim is an "archless" orthotic, a base for the skater’s foot within the boot, used in conjunction with existing orthotics. The Shim provides a stable foot bed from which to maneuver. The Shims in the Shim Balance System come in half-degree increments to allow for adjusting the angles as many times as necessary, quickly and easily. With the selection of the proper degree of Shims the pronation problem is corrected.

The patented design of the Shim allows it to be custom fitted for any boot. The shims are a molded pliable insert that can be used alone or in conjunction with any orthotic and/or custom or stock boot. Simply remove the orthotic and/or insole, place the Shim in the boot, replace the orthotic or insole, lace up the boot and skate with new ease and control.

Your skaters will be on the perfect balance point for each foot, every time the skater puts a skate on the floor!

World Class Praise For The Shim Balance System The Shim Balance System by The Foot Foundation was introduced to the roller skating world for the first time at the National Championships in Omaha, Nebraska. Many skaters and coaches were very impressed with immediate results in improved balance and control.

Even World Class Skaters saw immediate results.

Chris Fairman of Hampton Skating Club in Virginia, a Senior World Team member, said "So far, I have to say that many people thought that my skating had no more room to improve (in other words I was at the top of my game) and yet after placing your shims in my skates people were amazed that my figures were even better. I never felt a smoother roll and total control in my life. Amazing!!! Thanks again for all the help. After being home for a while and working, I have noticed a significant difference in how my back and joints feel at the end of a day. It feels awesome!"

SKATING ARTICLE WRITTEN BY ERIC WARD

Skating.... is simply a one-footed sport. … being “athletic’ on skates means never being on both feet at the same time.
This undeniable fact has inspired our one-Footed, Balance testing process. What do we learn from this unique balance testing process? We learn how pronation of the foot affects your whole body when you skate. Pronation, is what we measure with the Shim Balance System. The SBS solves pesky problems in skating, like maintaining body posture line, Equal access to the inside and outside edges, strong side weak side, knee pain, ankle pain, back pain, knee tracking, shin splints, and gripping toes. All are typical symptoms of pronation. This dynamic balance measuring process quantifies pronation in degrees. Then we insert the exact pre angled balance shims that will put your foot exactly where you want it within the boot. You will be left with the perfect balance point for each foot, ervery time you put your foot on the ground, or ice.

Creating the laser perfect balance point is as easy as adding the proper balance shim to your skate. This is not just another foot bed, in fact it is what we call an arch less orthotic. You can adjust the angles as many times as you would like quickly and easily. The shims come in half-degree increments so you can have maximum adjustability.
